Albuquerque PD enhances public safety with data-driven intelligence

Learn how the Albuquerque PD responds to emergencies faster with a unified public safety platform, allowing them to maximize their RTCC resources and assist the surrounding communities.

The company

Albuquerque is the most populous city in the state of New Mexico and the fourth largest in the Southwestern United States. While over 900,000 residents call the Albuquerque metro area home, another 6 million visitors flock to the city every year for business, fun, and adventure. From the almost year-round sunshine and a bustling cultural and restaurant scene to countless outdoor festivals and activities for nature enthusiasts, there are plenty of reasons why people love to live, work, and play in Albuquerque.

The challenge

Within the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), officers use various video management systems (VMS) and other public safety technologies to handle incidents and expedite response. But over the years, siloed systems and databases began wearing on their team’s efficiency. It became time-consuming for RTCC operators to navigate the different systems and provide accurate information to responding officers.

The solution

Enhanced RTCC operations

Having all video and public safety data within the CitigrafTM unified dashboard helps RTCC operators better understand events and activities. This empowers them to act faster and with greater confidence.

Better public safety data

The RTCC team also uses Citigraf to access historical video, information, and events to help strengthen investigations and keep department leads and decision-makers informed.

Easy evidence sharing

Operators can easily export video, events, and other incident data from Citigraf directly into ClearanceTM with a few mouse clicks. This saves time when sharing evidence with other officers.

Community collaboration

The APD’s Community Connect program is open to any type of camera system. Participants can upload video evidence via Clearance, and officers have the ability to open and view it.

“Investing in Security Center, Citigraf, and Clearance has allowed us to spread the information wealth. Using this unified public safety platform, we’ve been able to maximize our RTCC resources to better assist other APD departments, metro partners, and surrounding communities.”

Mark Torres, Commander of the RTCC, City of Albuquerque

Results

Today, the APD manages over 700 cameras using OmnicastTM, and Citigraf has become the main visualization dashboard from which RTCC operators handle emergency response. Everything from cameras and gunshot detection analytics to Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) information and officer GIS locations are combined within the Citigraf solution. Information operators need is always at their fingertips.

The APD is also saving time when sharing evidence with investigators or other officers, using the Genetec Clearance digital evidence management system. The Clearance camera registry feature has helped them manage digital evidence more efficiently. Now, detectives can quickly locate cameras on a map and email participants to request specific video. Camera owners simply click on a link to securely upload the video evidence via a web-based portal.
