Havan reduces investigation time by 60%

Find out how one of Brazil’s largest retailers improved business operations, enhanced internal audits, and increased incident response times.

The company

Havan is one of Brazil’s largest retailers, employing more than 22,000 people across its 173 megastores. Headquartered in Brusque, Santa Catarina, this big box retailer has been in operation for over 35 years, and today sells more than 350,000 national and imported products. The company also fulfills online orders and manages its vast inventory from a state-of-the-art distribution center spanning 170,000 m2. They also oversee several gas stations and plan to continue expanding operations across the region. Every day, the team works hard to keep customers and employees safe, secure assets, and ensure the business runs smoothly.

The challenge

Years ago, Havan decided to accelerate its expansion. The goal was to open 200 stores by the end of 2023. At the time, the company had three different video surveillance systems, all of which were giving issues and becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain. To accommodate expansions, the team knew they needed to overhaul their technological infrastructure and find a more efficient, scalable, and modern physical security solution for its growing retail operations. They wanted an open platform that could support many different technologies and one that would allow them to manage all their devices and systems from one location.

The solution

Unified view of retail security

With Security Center, the team can efficiently monitor and control all systems across 170 locations from the Havan headquarters using the Federation feature. Or, they can quickly pull up footage and respond to alarms using the Security Center mobile app from anywhere, at any time.

Fast incident response

Security Center alerts operators to real-time alarms and events. They can then quickly view the incident as it’s unfolding, and dispatch officers and public safety agencies to address the situation. This helps speed up incident response and minimizes any impacts on operations.

Valuable retail business insights

The team at Havan regularly generates analytical reports from Security Center which provide critical insights about security and business operations. This helps them maximize the value of their investment to make improvements. Because of this, they’ve reached ROI in just three years.

“Eight years ago, we were 90% analog. Today, we are almost fully digital with more than 9,000 high-resolution IP cameras. As a result, our maintenance costs have significantly dropped. And our audit team, who investigate all our incidents, has reduced the time spent on investigations by 60%.”

Diego Dutra, Support Coordinator for Havan

Results

Since implementing Genetec Security Center, the team at Havan now manages over 9,000 cameras from across 164 stores, its distribution center, and its gas stations from one unified view. Using Security Center, the retailer has also improved business operations, enhanced internal audits, and strengthened cybersecurity and compliance with the General Data Protection Act (the Brazilian LGPD regulation).

“We chose Security Center because we saw how this modern platform could help us strengthen our physical security by giving us a single, federated view of all our locations. This allows us to easily monitor, control, and maintain all our devices and systems from our headquarters,” says Diego Dutra, Support Coordinator at Havan, in charge of promoting constant innovation in the company.
