Ensuring safety and security beyond the stadium
Learn how the operations team at the largest stadium in Amsterdam, Johan Cruijff ArenA, unified security systems, enhanced city-wide collaboration, and implemented various built-in analytics tools to not only improve safety and security within the stadium, but across the entire entertainment district.
The company
Johan Cruijff ArenA is the main sports stadium in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and home to the football club AFC Ajax. Ensuring a great customer journey not only means keeping thousands of guests safe within the stadium itself. The team and stakeholders at Johan Cruijff ArenA work hard to ensure crowds can easily get to the stadium, find parking, grab snacks, drinks, and souvenirs, and have a seamless and memorable experience from start to finish.
The challenge
On event days, addressing security issues or long queues isn’t limited to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The security team knows that working amongst others with neighboring venues, transit agencies, and police departments helps ensure a safer, more streamlined guest experience. Their existing video technology had some limitations. There were not only blind spots around the stadium, but the team couldn’t easily share video with others when issues arose. Instead, they wanted a more intelligent and unified security solution to enhance visibility and strengthen collaboration with other entities while committing to the highest privacy standards.
The solution
Unifying stadium security
Operators work from a central control room to monitor crowds, safety concerns, and other issues using Security Center. They can also pull up live video from body-wearable cameras during incident response.
Enhancing city-wide collaboration
Facilitated by the Federation feature, various city stakeholders work together from the Operational Mobility Center. This heightens collaboration and facilitates seamless journeys during the city’s largest events.
Sharing evidence with ease
Using Genetec Clearance, the team quickly compiles evidence into case files. Then, they can securely share files with authorities if required. All user interactions are tracked to protect the chain of custody and respect privacy standards.
Exploring new capabilities
Thanks to an open platform, the team at Johan Cruijff ArenA can explore other built-in analytics and features within Security Center. Solutions such as KiwiVision people counter, and AutoVu ANPR can further enhance operations.
“Using Genetec Security Center really helps us to enhance the safety of our visitors because it strengthens our visibility and crowd management capabilities. As a whole, it makes our ArenA better.”
Maurits van Hovell, Consultant – Mobility and Environment at Johan Cruijff ArenA
Results
Today, the security team at the Johan Cruijff ArenA uses Genetec Security Center to manage all their fixed and body-wearable cameras across the stadium. The mobile cameras extend visibility to harder-to-reach areas and provide additional evidence to support investigations. All video connects back to a central control room in the stadium, where operators can actively monitor issues or delays and quickly address safety or security concerns.
Using the Federation feature, Johan Cruijff ArenA now works with various partners from their innovative Operational Mobility Center during larger events when crowds are at their highest. Should an issue arise, they can quickly coordinate response and share information and video with stakeholders. This has enhanced safety and security within the stadium and across the entire entertainment district.
