Managing an expanding video monitoring operation
Kooi, a remote video monitoring specialist, takes a centralized approach to securing hundreds of construction sites across Europe using Genetec Security Center.
The company
Since its founding in 2010, Kooi has rapidly grown into an internationally renowned video surveillance specialist. The firm originally operated out of a single shipping container on a construction site, and is now headquartered in the old National Bank of the Netherlands, in Drachten. Today, Kooi has more than 140 employees and a 24/7 security monitoring operation in over 20 European countries. Its expert advisory team complement a technology stack that includes mobile camera surveillance (UFO), heat detection (RED), and 24/7 CCTV monitoring service the Kooi Alarm Center.
The challenge
Kooi’s rapid growth created a scalability challenge for the company. Processes and technologies that were sufficient at the outset could no longer cope now that the company was remotely monitoring multiple client sites and over 2,000 security cameras across various countries. With plans to deploy more Kooi Alarm Centers in 2021 and beyond, the company urgently required a centralized technology platform to help reduce false alarms, support ambitious corporate growth plans, and manage Kooi’s “entire fleet of mobile security systems,” according to Kooi IT Manager, Ferdinant Visser.

Improved heat detection
Combining Security Center with Kooi’s own innovative machine-learning software has improved heat-detection capabilities that enable faster identification of potential fires on customer sites.
Flexible open architecture
As an open architecture platform, Security Center supports a wide range of video analytics and sensors. This allows Kooi to meet the bespoke technical requirements of its broad customer base.
Customized applications
With the Genetec Software Development Kit, Kooi built a specialized machine learning application for its mobile camera observation masts – a primary tool for monitoring construction sites.
