Driving manufacturing security and operations forward
Navistar Escobedo boosts security and operations across their largest manufacturing facility in Mexico. Learn how operators streamline vehicle and pedestrian access control and gain meaningful insights that help optimize just-in-time manufacturing processes.
The company
Navistar is dedicated to delivering innovative technologies and services in the road transportation sector. The company is organized into three business units – plant production, spare parts, and financial services. The company also has an extensive network of distributors with over 86 locations in Mexico. The Navistar plant located in Escobedo, Nuevo Leon, is the company's largest manufacturing facility worldwide. Built on 110 hectares, this plant employs 10,000 people and displays a remarkable production capacity, dispatching approximately 300 trucks per day.
The challenge
With many people and vehicles flowing in and out at the Escobedo plant, the Navistar team began looking for ways to improve their physical security and operational efficiencies. Their main goals were to enhance the company's day-to-day operations and intelligence, reduce their response times to possible incidents, and streamline access control for staff, suppliers, and visitors. They also wanted to use their physical security investments to better manage vehicle flow during high production seasons. Their search for a unified and data-driven physical security platform led them to Genetec™ Security Center.
The solution
Unified command and control
All video and data come back into a state-of-the-art command center. Now, if an incident is underway, operators can see what’s happening and act fast from one unified view.
Digitized access control
Using the Synergis™ access control system, Navistar has transitioned from manual to electronic processes. This has helped streamline the flow of people entering and exiting the property.
Improved vehicle flow
In times of high production, Navistar has been able to use built-in video analytics to reduce vehicle wait times at exits. This has increased daily output efficiencies and expedited the dispatch of trucks.
Unlimited growth potential
Navistar Escobedo has plans to keep growing their system. For now, the team is looking to add facial recognition, license plate recognition, intrusion management, and cloud storage.
“Our main task within our department is to ensure business continuity. We chose Genetec Security Center based on a thorough assessment of its reliability and the speed at which reports can be generated. With Genetec, we have pinpointed the right features to transition from manual to electronic processes, enhancing the security of our income verification procedures.”

Results
The automotive company has unified and centralized its security operations. All video and data come back into a central command center, where operators can handle alarms, manage incidents, and review reports. Currently, they use Omnicast™ to manage over 100 existing cameras and have plans to add another 80-100 cameras in the near future.
Having a unified view of security and operations provides security specialists with the ability to comprehensively analyze risks and mitigate threats. They also get access to intelligence that helps to optimize operations, enhance efficiencies, and ensure business continuity. “As a partner, Genetec has been focused on our needs. They listen to us and provide solution options. They help us find integrators and tell us how to proceed. They provide guidance on what’s optimal for our business,” said Gómez.
