The Port of Moerdijk operates, manages, and develops an expansive seaport and industrial zone in the Netherlands. This large-scale logistics provider helps connect port and industrial operations with organizations across Europe. The Port of Moerdijk is also considered one of the safest harbor sites in the Netherlands. Over 400 companies and nearly 20,000 people work within the Port. Both innovation and safety are paramount across the business.
The challenge
The Moerdijk Harbour Company is responsible for managing the port’s security. The company works with other businesses within the Port of Moerdijk to ensure safety and security across all activities and areas. The security control center, known as the ‘HMCC’, is located on the port authority’s premises. From there, operators closely monitor all nautical and any other traffic movements using video cameras and numerous sensors, including smartphone detection.

Results
The Port of Moerdijk integrates the data generated by different business sensors and tools within Genetec Security Center, and plans to expand this to further enhance security. According to Remco Hobbelen, IT manager of Port of Moerdijk: “For a few zones that are not within camera reach, we're deploying smartphone and Bluetooth recognition. Furthermore, we're also using automatic license plate recognition, smell sensors, and vehicle weighing technologies."
