Ksense - K-DAS RSA integration plugin Solution Overview
The K-DAS RSA Integration Plugin offers seamless integration between Ksense's K-DAS distributed fiber optic acoustic sensing system and the RSA module of the Genetec Security Center platform.
The plugin enables bi-directional translation of events from K-DAS into the RSA module, providing the event type and precise coordinates. This allows the events to be displayed on a map and used as triggers for other integrated systems such as video cameras, drones, radars and more.
The advanced algorithms in K-DAS can identify the type of intrusion, such as an individual, vehicle, or excavation activity, and provide the precise GPS coordinates of the event. The plugin translates this rich data into the Genetec system for display, alerting and triggering automated responses.
Security operators can click any K-DAS alarm on the map to instantly view the closest camera feeds and other sensor data for that location. Configurable alarm severities and notifications ensure the most critical events are quickly investigated. The full integration of K-DAS event data with the other systems managed by Security Center provides a force-multiplier for perimeter security.
Main Features:
- Real-time notification of intrusion alarms with precise location from the K-DAS system
- Association of K-DAS detection zones with cameras for immediate visual assessment of alarms
- Display of K-DAS zones and alarm information on custom site maps in Security Center
- Configurable event severity levels and alarm notifications tailored to each site
- Easy integration via plugin without custom development
Key Market Applicatrions
Perimeter Security for Critical Infrastructure
Critical sites like airports, power plants, factories and oil fields require the highest level of perimeter protection against intrusions. K-DAS addresses this need with its advanced fiber optic sensing capabilities, enabling detection, localization and classification of threats up to 10 meters from the perimeter fence. The main benefit is reliable, 24/7 intrusion detection that filters out nuisance alarms and allows security personnel to respond proactively to verified threats.
Pipeline Monitoring and Protection
Oil and gas pipelines spanning vast distances are vulnerable to accidents, leaks, and malicious interference like illegal tapping. K-DAS provides continuous, real-time monitoring of pipeline integrity and the surrounding area, instantly detecting and localizing unauthorized digging activity as well as leaks. The key advantage is that a single K-DAS system can monitor up to 100 km of pipeline, enabling cost-effective protection of critical energy infrastructure.
Borders Protection
Securing national borders against illegal crossings and smuggling is a major challenge. K-DAS turns a standard fiber optic cable buried along the border into an intelligent sensor capable of detecting and classifying human movement, vehicles, and tunneling activity up to 10 meters away. The system can also determine the direction of border crossing, distinguishing inbound and outbound threats. By providing early warning of intrusion attempts with precise location data, K-DAS enables border security forces to respond more quickly and effectively to threats. A single K-DAS system can monitor up to 100 km of border, making it a scalable and cost-effective solution for enhancing border security.
Features and Benefits
Features:
- Advanced fiber optic sensing technology enables highly accurate detection, classification and localization of intrusions and threats up to 10 meters from the sensor cable[.
- Powerful AI algorithms trained on extensive real-world data sets deliver exceptional event classification accuracy, minimizing false alarms while maintaining a high probability of detection. The system can reliably distinguish between human intruders, vehicles, animals, and other disturbances.
- Seamless integration with Genetec Security Center via a dedicated plugin, allowing security operators to monitor K-DAS alarms and trigger event-driven actions - all from a unified interface. Alarms include precise GPS coordinates for immediate response.
- Intrinsic safety and immunity to electromagnetic interference, radio frequency interference, and lightning strikes, ensuring reliable operation in harsh environments. The passive sensor cable requires no power or electronics in the field, reducing infrastructure costs.
- Resilient to cable cuts and damage, with each cut affecting only a small section rather than the entire sensor length. The system maintains high availability even during repairs. Cable can be easily deployed on various fence types and walls.
- Simple and compact design allows for fast, low-cost installation. Software-based setup and configuration eliminates the need for extensive hardware, while intuitive tools enable zone assignment and sensitivity adjustments tailored to each site.
Benefits:
- Unmatched threat detection capabilities spanning up to 100 km per system, enabling cost-effective protection of even the largest sites and perimeters. Wide-area coverage with minimal infrastructure.
- Clear, actionable intelligence with real-time alarms that pinpoint the location and classify the type of intrusion, allowing security personnel to respond faster and more effectively to verified threats.
- Enhanced situational awareness through deep integration with Genetec Security Center, unifying K-DAS events with video, access control and other sensor data for a comprehensive view of security.
- Maximum uptime and longevity with a rugged, 25-year service life and resilient design that maintains protection despite potential cable damage. Minimizes maintenance costs and service disruption.
- Superior perimeter protection that filters out nuisance alarms and adapts to each unique environment, reducing operator workload and delivering a high return on investment.
Solution Architecture
The K-DAS system uses fiber optic sensing based on the principle of coherent reflectometry. Optical pulses are sent into a standard single-mode fiber optic cable which acts as the sensor. A small fraction of light is backscattered due to non-uniformities in the fiber. When the fiber experiences micro-deformations caused by nearby vibro-acoustic events, this backscattered signal is altered.
The K-DAS interrogator unit continuously monitors and analyzes these signal changes to identify the location and type of event detected, such as human footsteps, vehicles, or digging activity. Advanced signal processing and AI algorithms filter and classify the signals. A single K-DAS unit can monitor up to 100km of sensor cable. Multiple units can be networked to cover even longer perimeters up to 1500km.
Real-time intrusion alerts with precise GPS coordinates are sent to the K-DAS software interface or forwarded to integrated security management systems. Customizable sensitivity zones and retrainable neural networks allow the system to be optimized for each unique deployment environment.
In summary, the key elements of the K-DAS solution architecture are:
- Standard single-mode fiber optic cable (up to 100km per system), which acts as the sensor for the K-DAS system.
- Opto-electronic interrogator unit
- Advanced signal processing and AI classification software
- User interface and API for integration with other security systems
This architecture enables scalable, long-range perimeter monitoring with minimal infrastructure for cost-effective protection of critical sites and assets.
