GroundAware Solution Overview
GroundAware®, our radar-based surveillance solutions built on all new digital radar technology, remotely monitor and respond to physical security threats in real time at critical sites. GroundAware facilitates an event-based, layered security approach for perimeter security in which intruders can be detected in real time, tracked from long ranges, and instantly trigger pre-determined next steps for visual verification, deterrence, and interdiction that is fully integrated with other security systems, including cameras and access control, VMS, and PSIM systems.
Key Market Application
Integrating with Genetec RSA
The GroundAware radar system acts as a critical security sensor at your site being monitored with Genetec RSA. GroundAware tracks a variety of targets, from drones to vehicles, at several different maximum distance options ranging from 1 to 9 kilometers. GroundAware is capable of detecting, tracking, and classifying many targets at your site.
Once a track has been formed on a target, GroundAware will send its information to Genetec RSA where is can be seamlessly integrated into a new or existing layered security suite. From that point, you will be able to take advantage of all the capabilities of RSA using GroundAware as a powerful target tracking sensor.
Protecting the physical security of the electrical grid, including transmission and generation sites, is a serious challenge. At these sites, simple thefts can lead to significant cost, not to mention the threats posed by orchestrated attacks on the grid. As a result, electric utilities spend great resources on security. GroundAware radar systems detect and track intruders at long ranges in real time and instantly trigger pre-determined next steps for alarming, notification, visual verification, deterrence, interdiction, and other responsive actions. With GroundAware, utility sites across large service areas can be monitored from a single security operations center without the need for constant human monitoring.
Extensive perimeters and sensitive areas at airports pose significant security challenges for security stakeholders. Intruders pose serious risks to airport operations, not to mention the safety of everyone potentially impacted by an intrusion. Airports are the ideal environment to benefit from GroundAware's long-range, wide-area coverage of airports perimeters, runways, ramps, etc. With minimal investment in GroundAware, airports can cover large areas and receive notification of approaching threats as they happen and long before intruders reach sensitive areas.
Whether dealing with contraband or maintaining situational awareness, corrections facilities face myriad physical security challenges. GroundAware radar systems enable prisons to automate monitoring, deterrence, and response to security events as they occur across wide areas or in focused zones. And thanks to easy integration with Genetec and other security assets, GroundAware gives corrections management and officers the comprehensive, actionable information to know when, where, and how intruders or other bad-actors threaten, along with the automation to react to those threats instantaneously. GroundAware offers both 2D and 3D radar systems for real-time surveillance of perimeters, managing incidents such as inmate escapes, and contraband detection, tracking, and response, including with addressing drones increasingly used for dropping contraband into prison sites.
Features and benefits
Large manufacturing plants, industrial sites, logistics centers, and other large-scale facilities have long perimeters, gates, and other sensitive zones that pose security risks, especially when these facilities are often in higher-risk geographical locations. GroundAware's long-range, wide-area coverage of large areas make GroundAware radar systems ideal for augmenting legacy fence systems or for providing the first investment in perimeter security. With GroundAware, minimal investment in sensors and related infrastructure are required to provide real-time situational awareness. Rather than relying on manual patrols or monitoring by security operators, GroundAware provides automated coverage, real-time notification to security operators, and instantaneous slewing of cameras and other assets to address intrusions.
Key Features
- All-new digital multi-beamforming S-Band radar technology designed specifically for ground and low-altitude surveillance, constantly scanning its field of view
- Full system performance in all weather and times of day
- Real-time, wide-area detection and tracking in all-weather/lighting conditions at ranges of up to 15 km, with a 120°-360 azimuth field of view
- Enables coverage of large areas with the fewest sensors
- Target classification capabilities for differentiating among different types of intruders humans, animals, water and ground vehicles, drones, and larger aircraft
- High classification accuracy of targets enabled by "staring nature of radar that transmits and receives simultaneously, unlike rotating radars with hardware driven track update rates.
- Minimal investment in infrastructure required for implementation
- Solid-state design, with no moving parts
- Low total cost for surveillance coverage
Solution Architecture
Our radar server connects to a radar device to receive and process raw track data into tracks. From there, the tracks are passed along to the RSA notifier service, running on the GroundAware server.
The RSA notifier takes and passes track information along to a specified port. The RSA plugin is configured to listen for tracks on this port. From there, the tracks are received by RSA.
- The RSA plugin also requests information on a separate port which the GroundAware notifier is also listening on. Information that can be requested includes: sub devices, connection status, and existing zone information.
