We do offer on-site training. The client will need to supply the training facility and have the necessary equipment to conduct a training (i.e. computers for each participant, high-speed internet connectivity [minimum 10GB down, 5GB up], projection screen, etc.). Private training can have up to 10 participants in the training session.

Do you offer online instructor-led training to private groups?

We do offer private online training. Online sessions can last up to 6 hours with a maximum of 25 participants logged in at any given time. Please note that we do not offer our certification courses through online sessions, but we can deliver customized training that includes modules from our certification courses.

Do I pay before or after training and what payment options do I have?

Payment must accompany the registration form and be processed before training takes place. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Check, and Bank Wire Transfer.

If your company has pre-established payment terms with Genetec, you may submit a copy of your PO with your registration form. If your company is enrolled in the Channel Partner Co-Op Plan, you may be eligible to use your Training Co-Op Funds. For inquiries on whether you are eligible to pay with PO or Co-Op funds, or to obtain your Training Co-Op fund balance please contact the training team.

Is there a deadline to submit my registration form?

The deadline to submit registrations for a public training session is normally 2 weeks before the beginning of the training session.

What are the benefits of technical certification?

Technical certification equips your technical staff with a wide range of knowledge and tools to effectively deploy, configure, and maintain Genetec™ IP Security systems. Online recertification options are available for those who wish to stay current on the continually evolving technology.

Technical certification also enables direct phone and online chat support for customers covered by Genetec™ Advantage.

The public training session I’m trying to register for is full. What should I do?

Training registrations are processed on a first-come-first-served basis and our sessions can fill quickly from one day to the next. If the session you are requesting is full, we can add your name to the waiting list by contacting the training team, and you will be notified once a place becomes available. In the meantime, we strongly suggest selecting a secondary date that we can register you or your participant for.

What if I need to cancel my training or make a change to a participant?

Genetec training fees are non-refundable, however, any cancellation up to 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the course will entitle the participant to a 100% credit towards a future training session. Any rescheduling or cancellation within 2 weeks prior to the training will be subject to an administration fee. Substitutions of participants are accepted without any additional charges. Any cancellation must be confirmed by e-mail.

After your training

When do I receive my certification number?

Once you have submitted your registration form and payment for an upcoming training session, a certification number will be generated and made available in your GTAP profile. If you do not have a GTAP profile, one will be created for you upon registration. Your certification number will grant you access to GTAC technical phone support (for systems covered by Genetec™ Advantage) until the certification training is completed.

What is the difference between a course certificate and a certification ID?

A certificate is granted upon the successful completion of one of our technical training courses. A certification ID is a number that is unique to each participant, representing their training profile history, and is required to gain access to direct phone support. A certification ID is considered ‘active’ if a participant is registered for an upcoming certification course, or if they have valid course certificates in their profile from the last 18 months.

How long is my certification valid?

All technical certification courses are valid for 18 months from the time you complete the course. The expiration of your Training ID can be extended by taking any one of our classroom certification training or an online upgrade training for minor product updates (e.g. 5.10 to 5.11). Reminders of ID expiration will be sent 90 days, 60 days, 30 days, and 15 days prior to expiration. You can also verify your expiration date through the GTAP portal under Technical Assistance Training My Certifications.

What happens if I don’t pass my certification exam?

All participants are given 2 attempts at our certification and recertification exams. If the participant fails both attempts, they may purchase additional retake exams, or explore refresher training options.

Recertification

My certification is expired, what should I do?

If your certification has expired, you may be eligible for online recertification training. Please note that online recertification training is only available for minor software releases (i.e. 5.0 to 5.10) and not for major releases (i.e. 4.x to 5.x), which may require additional classroom training. Once the completed registration form and payment have been submitted, your certification ID will be temporarily re-activated, and you will have access to phone and chat support until the deadline indicated by the training department. Upon successful completion of the exam, your certification ID expiration will be extended for 18 months and your certificate will be available on the GTAP portal. For more information or to sign up for online recertification training, please contact the training team.

How much time should I allocate to complete my recertification?

We recommend allocating half a day to complete the recertification process. Once the registration form and payment are received, participants will receive an email with links to training videos, documentation, and the recertification exam. This is an entirely self-paced training that can be completed at the participant’s leisure.

Certification transfer and retraining program

What is the Certification Transfer and Retraining Program?

Effective March 1st, 2019, Genetec will be putting in place a Certification Transfer and Retraining program. Genetec recognizes the investment your company makes in certifying in-house technical experts on our solutions. With this update, we aim to make it even easier to maintain technical expertise within your teams.

In the event a newly certified employee leaves your company, Genetec will offer a discount on training replacement staff. In parallel, Genetec will apply an equivalent fee to a company requesting a certification transfer to their organization.

Going forward, the retraining discount is applicable when an employee leaves your organization within 6 months of completing a Genetec technical certification course. The discount can be applied to training new or existing staff. A single discount is applicable per employee, with value based on the level of certification of the original profile.

How do I obtain a retraining discount?

You will be asked to fill out a form requesting the name and email address of the individual who has left your company when registering a new employee for a Genetec training course. Our training coordinators will then verify the completion date of the previous training, deactivate the individual’s certification ID within our systems, and determine the level of discount applicable for retraining based on their training history. Please note that the discount cannot be placed on file and needs to be applied directly to a new training request of one individual in your team.

How does the administrative fee to reactive and transfer a certification ID work?

If your company would like to reactivate a Genetec certification ID for an employee who was trained under a different company, an administration fee will apply based on the employee’s training history. You will be asked to fill out a form for the reactivation of the new employee and provide your payment method. Please contact the training team for more information or to begin the process.
