YPF upgrades security operations throughout Argentina

Find out how this prominent energy company improved security, boosted operational efficiency, and even reduced costs by migrating its outdated physical security system.

The organization

YPF is the largest and most widely recognized Argentinean company in the exploration, production, industrialization, commercialization, transport, and distribution of hydrocarbons and derivatives. The company operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Its security involves managing a variety of risks, as its plants have explosive atmospheres and employ some 12,000 people across the country.
Their security needs include the monitoring of all critical areas, responding quickly to any event that may occur, and implementing prevention and mitigation measures with maximum effectiveness.

The challenge

YPF's video surveillance system is one of the company's critical systems, playing a major role in ensuring smooth operations.

Prior to implementing the Genetec solution, the company managed its video surveillance cameras on three separate video platforms, which meant dealing with several display interfaces.

The aim was to improve service at its gas stations, increase efficiency in operations and incident response, prevent technical issues, and optimize the use of the security system.

The solution

Unified and centralized monitoring

YPF unified and centralized its systems with Genetec Security Center. The unified system manages video surveillance, analytics, license plate recognition, and almost 3,500 cameras in its 160 locations throughout the country.

More security in less time

Security Center Omnicast drastically cut down on the time required for operations, event management, response, and forensic investigations.

Increased perimeter protection

The implementation of KiwiVision video analytics for intrusion detection and virtual fencing strengthened perimeter protection and lowered personnel costs.

Maximum vehicle coverage

By installing 62 cameras for license plate recognition, Security Center AutoVu was able to obtain a complete vehicle registry in different locations.

"The future lies in agile, easy-to-use platforms that can accommodate other systems, all at a reasonable price in relation to the benefits they provide. YPF achieved all of this with Genetec."

Results

YPF was able to complete deployment quickly and with few resources: two people managed to migrate over 190 servers and 3,500 cameras to the Genetec solution in a matter of 18 months at 160 sites across the country; with Omnicast, a bandwidth cut-off limit was set for each of its channels. The company achieved greater scalability and flexibility of its systems and customer administration was greatly simplified.

Plan Manager reduced forensic investigation time and security costs were brought down by unifying KiwiVision's video analytics for intrusion detection, video surveillance, and virtual fencing. The platform also provided them with people counting analytics to gain business intelligence information. And thanks to Genetec Advantage , the YPF team has access to free technical support and software upgrades.
