BACnet protocol

BACnet protocol

The IIoT integration to Security Center opens a new world of connectivity within the Genetec ecosystem. Leveraging the BACnet protocol, this integration allows bi-directional communication between industrial devices/control systems and Security Center.

Operators receive events based on configured thresholds (e.g. Trigger event when T°> 35°C/95°F) and can set up event-to-actions to write a value to those systems or devices (for instance, changing a thermostat setting and turning off lights when an intrusion area is armed).

Office buildings

Decrease your facility overhead by configuring rules with connected HVAC systems and light sensors. Set it up so that when the first employee of the day badges in, the air conditioning and the lights turn on, instead of having pre-configured hours which might vary everyday. Pre-sets can also be set for specific rooms, such as the underground parking lot, to turn on the lights only when the parking doors open or when someone badges in at the entrance to the parking lot.

You can receive data from these connected devices to know their states and values, monitoring it all in one Security Center dashboard.

Emergency situations

Configure paths to light up to help first responders navigate through buildings in situations where rapid response is crucial. Ensure gates are open so firefighters or security guards can enter the premises and efficiently mitigate the situation.

Based on Security Center events, actions can be pushed to devices to change their current state or setting. For example, after an intrusion alarm is triggered, lock the doors surrounding the area and turn on the lights to help security guards navigate the environment. Further enhance your operations by triggering Mission Control procedures to guide operators through tense situations.

Solution architecture

Devices that use the BACnet/IP protocol to communicate with the BACnet integration. In response to requests from the integration, BACnet devices reply with their current data values and states. The BACnet integration is installed on Config Tool and Security Desk workstations. The Security Center administrator uses Config Tool to create and configure the plugin role. Security Desk operators can view state changes in real time on maps.

Features and benefits

  • Monitor your building sensors for heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, lighting, access, fire detection systems, and their associated equipment
  • Receive status from sensors and automatically generate events in Security Center
  • View the status of sensors in real-time and add them as widgets in your Security Center dashboard
  • Generate reports of historical data to help you identify trends and anomalies
